Domestic Airline Information

Americans are taking to airline travel for both work and pleasure. It is hard to believe that in 1971, only about 15 percent of the American public had traveled by airplane. Today, that number is over 80 percent.

Luckily for us, in the United States, there is a wide selection of U.S. domestic airline services available. We provide you with an overview of some of the top U.S. airline companies and the services that they offer. The airlines that we have selected as the most affordable include Southwest, JetBlue, Midwest, Alaska Air and Frontier.

These airlines are also considered "family friendly" because they supervise unaccompanied minors on flights for a charge and all allow babies under the age of two to sit for free on a parents' lap. Several airlines, including Southwest, Midwest, and Alaska, will discount fares by up to 50 percent for infants occupying their own seat.

Alaska Airlines - The  goal of Alaska Airlines is to always provide safe, reliable transportation for a reasonable price, along with the caring, friendly and professional service that Alaska Airlines is known for.

Alaska Airlines has less restrictive fares than most major carriers, and periodically offering free kids' fares to Disneyland and Disney World.  Alaska Air has eliminated its Friday- or Saturday-night stay requirement and maximum-stay restrictions. Families can now use Alaska to take short trips without staying over a weekend, or to travel long term without paying a penalty.

Plus, several times a year, Alaska Airlines vacations sells vacation packages to Disneyland or Disney World that include free flights for kids under 12.

Frontier Airlines - They want to make a difference in air travel and their motto is that Frontier is "a whole different animal". 

They follow four different principles:
They are affordable and sell great low fares all week long, and offer combinable one-way fares so you'll always get the very best price.

They are flexible by allowing free standby travel for a different outbound or return flight on the same day as originally scheduled.

They have the reputation as one of the most accommodating and friendly airlines in the U.S. and that begins with their employees. Our employees are their foundation, and they understand what it takes to serve you.

Frontier Airlines wants you to feel comfortable. They offer more legroom, wider seats and newer airplanes. JetBlue - This is an airline that cares enough about its customers to have a JetBlue Customer Bill of Rights.  JetBlue offers many amenities to their customers such as  comfy seats, tasty snacks and drinks, serious R&R, great low fares, award-winning service, customer loyalty program, DIRECTV® programming, XM SATELLITE RADIO®, FOX InFlight™ movies and free wireless. Midwest Airlines - This airline offers a unique combination of personal attention, professional customer care and comfort provides passengers an unparalleled travel experience. Every member of the Midwest team is committed to offering "The best care in the air" on every flight, every day.

Midwest Airlines Saver Service provides nonstop, low-fare flights to leisure destinations. Saver flights fly between Milwaukee and Denver, Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix, San Francisco and Tampa.

Midwest Airlines Signature Service is featured on all other Midwest Airlines routes. Seating on Signature flights is altered from the standard 2-by-3 coach seating to a roomier two-by-two configuration, with wide leather seats for additional passenger comfort. The 717 aircraft also offer adjustable footrests and head cushions.

Both Saver and Signature flights provide passengers with extra legroom for added comfort. Pitch (the distance between seats) averages 33-34", depending on aircraft type - significantly more than the 30" most airlines average in coach class. The interior width of seat cushions on Midwest aircraft is 18" on Saver flights and 21" on Signature flights, compared with coach seating that is 17-18" wide on most airlines.

Southwest Airlines - Now this airline likes the concept of Freedom.  On Southwest, you have 12 months to use unused funds, and you pay only the difference (if any) between your old and new ticket.

With Southwest, Customer Service is free, and you don’t have to pay extra to buy your ticket over the phone from the Reservations Office or in person at the airport. Do you need assistance with your luggage? Others charge a fee for Skycap service, but not at Southwest. Southwest Airlines does not serve sandwiches or meals, however, you may bring something to eat onboard. Southwest Airlines serves complimentary coffee, juices, and cold drinks on all flights.
