Major U.S. Airlines

Over the years major U.S. airlines have merged, gone out of business, changed routes and even changed their logos and images. We have provided you with a list of the major commercial airlines in that operate in the United States. The official airline Web sites allow you to check flight schedules, book flights, and even learn more about the type of aircraft they fly. While you can check fares and purchase ticketse through the individual airlines, online companies like Expedia and Travelociy allow you to compare ticket prices between airlines so you can find the cheapest airline tickets.

The governement agency responsilbe for the safety of civil aviation is the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA makes sure that the airlines follow strict rules and regulations that are in place to ensure that your flight is the safest possible.

Airtran Airlines - AirTran Airways is one of America's largest low-fare airlines - employing more than 7,500 Crew Members and operating almost 700 flights a day to 50 destinations. The airline's hub is at Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Alaska Airlines - Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, together provide passenger and cargo service to more than 80 cities in Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada, and Mexico.

America West Airlines - US Airways and America West’s recently merged.

Frontier Airlines - Frontier has grown to be the second largest carrier out of Denver International Airport, with an average of 250 daily system-wide departures and arrivals. These serve 24 of the top 25 destinations out of Denver. Their team now numbers around 4,800 Frontier employees in cities throughout North America.  Frontier Airlines fly all over the U.S., to seven destinations in Mexico and to Calgary, Alberta Canada.

Hawaiian Airlines - Hawaiian Airlines is the sixteenth largest domestic airline in the United States. The Company has a fleet of 25 aircraft and offers nonstop service to Hawaii from more U.S. gateway cities than any other airline. JetBlue - JetBlue Airways is New Yorks hometown airline. JetBlue is known for low fares, award-winning service and the most live entertainment in the skies.

Midwest Airlines - Midwest Airlines features nonstop jet service to major destinations throughout the United States. Midwest Connect offers connections to Midwest Airlines flights, as well as point-to-point service between select markets on regional jet and turboprop aircraft.

United Airlines - United Airlines operates more than 3,700 flights a day on United®, United Express® and TedSM to more than 210 U.S. domestic and international destinations from its hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
